If Money Movers (1978), the subject of the first of my two part series about little known Australian noir cinema, is unknown, the film I want to focus on in part two has been literally buried alive - Phillip Noyce’s Heatwave (1982).
Solid retrospective of a great film. May I suggest for the list, Blood Money (1980), and Albie Thoms' very atmospheric Palm Beach (1980), also starring Bryan Brown. A VHS dub of Palm Beach can be found here - https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8n4e1n
Hey Andrew, I first saw it the cinema when I came to Australia as a teenager in 1980 and it made a big impression on me. Saw it again recently on the dailymotion link I included in my post. I'm not familiar with Albie Thoms' other films but I understand that Palm Beach is his most accessible work. It's quite loose and expressionistic, but I like it a lot.
I am old enough to have seen this Film at a UK cinema shortly after its release, great Review, another Film I will need to source a UK streaming site for along with Newsfront from 1978 , one of the very first Cinema Art House screenings I went to following a move from SE England to Edinburgh, was blown away by Newfront such a great Film
Lovely write-up, Andrew. You could maybe add 'The Tender Hook' (2008) to the noir list too.
Also if it's of interest to anyone, I once created a Letterboxd list of Australian crime films (not noir specifically); https://letterboxd.com/bench2020/list/the-down-underworld-australian-crime-films/
Thanks, Tom, I will check your list out. I have seen THE TENDER HOOK but had completely forgotten about it. Good catch.

Never seen PALM BEACH. In fact, never even heard of it. How did you see it? I must check out YouTube and see if there is a burn.

Some brilliant movies and a bunch more I will check out, loved Two Hands ✋️......one i also loved was Lantana with Anthony Lapaglia
Hurricane Smith (1992) for a sleazy romp through GC knock-shops with Carl Weathers

Noyce: criminally under-rated. Long overdue, here, to rewatch ‘Dead Calm’, which I remember as very well done.

Might be a darkly humorous tribute to noir but I would add Roly Poly Man to the list too.
This is one film I have actually not seen yet. I must get around to watching it.
Actually this is a better version:

I remember finding it on the internet archive 👍🏻
Does "Jindabyne" count?

So long since I have seen it, maybe. I would be interested to know why you think it does?
Shoot, you've probably seen it more recently than I did. There was a murder mystery, and a cheating husband...?
